Planning a day of wine tasting should be exciting. Instead, it often turns into a logistical puzzle: Which wineries are open? How long should we stay at each? What's the best route? Will we make it before they close?
We built PourPlan's new Outings feature to solve exactly this problem. It's like having a knowledgeable local friend who knows the area, the hours, and the best routes—all working behind the scenes to make sure your wine tasting day goes smoothly.
What Makes This Different
Most itinerary planners make you do all the thinking. PourPlan does the thinking for you:
Automatic Route Optimization: Add wineries in any order. We automatically arrange them to minimize driving time, respecting your reservations as fixed waypoints.
Smart Scheduling: Set a start time and we calculate when you'll arrive at each stop, accounting for visit durations, transit time, and breaks. If your timing won't work (like arriving after closing), we tell you immediately.
One-Click Navigation: Open your entire route in Google Maps with your current location as the starting point. All your waypoints are already loaded.
Share Your Plans: Every itinerary gets a beautiful shareable link. Send it to friends joining you, keep it for yourself, or access it on your phone during the day.
How It Works
Let's walk through planning a Woodinville wine day:
1. Create Your Outing
Click "Plan Outing" from any winery page or your favorites dashboard. Give it a name and date. That's it—you've started.
2. Add Wineries
Browse Woodinville's wineries and click the "+ Add to Outing" button on any winery. Behind the scenes, we're already optimizing your route.
Let's say you add:
- Chateau Ste. Michelle—the iconic estate with expansive grounds
- Sparkman Cellars—bold reds in a modern tasting room
- DeLille Cellars—Bordeaux-style blends from one of Woodinville's pioneers
When you add the third stop, we calculate the optimal insertion position. If Sparkman is between Chateau Ste. Michelle and DeLille geographically, we'll slot it there automatically, even if you added it last.
3. Set Your Schedule
Click a start time (say, 1:00 PM). We immediately calculate arrival times:
- Chateau Ste. Michelle: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
- Sparkman Cellars: 2:15 PM - 3:15 PM (15 min drive)
- DeLille Cellars: 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM (15 min drive)
Adjust visit durations if you want more time somewhere. Change transit modes if you're biking or walking between stops. Add breaks for lunch. The schedule updates instantly.
4. Navigate Your Day
When it's time to go, click "Open Route in Google Maps." Your phone's navigation loads with all three wineries as waypoints, starting from wherever you are right now.
The Smart Details
Route Optimization That Respects Reservations
Made a reservation at DeLille for 3:30 PM? Mark it as reserved, and we'll treat that as a fixed waypoint. Other stops can move around it, but your reservation stays locked in place.
Coming from the south but the route starts north? Hit the "Reverse" button to flip your entire itinerary.
Timing Validation
Our system knows winery hours. If you try to schedule a 75-minute visit starting at 4:00 PM at a winery that closes at 5:00 PM, we'll warn you immediately: "Not enough time for 75-minute visit."
We also track transit times between stops. If you're walking from one winery to another but left your car at the first stop, we calculate the backtracking time and warn you about the total transit time.
Desktop & Mobile Layouts
On desktop, your itinerary cards sit side-by-side with a live map. Scroll through your stops while the map stays visible, markers showing your scheduled arrival times.
On mobile, toggle between list and map views. Same information, optimized for the screen size.
Shareable Itineraries
Every outing gets a unique shareable URL. Send it to friends who are joining you. They see your full itinerary with times, maps, and directions—but can't edit it. It's read-only for them, fully editable for you.
