The Challenge: Too Many Tasting Rooms, Not Enough Time
Woodinville has over 140 tasting rooms. The greater Seattle wine region? Nearly 270. That's an incredible embarrassment of riches—and an overwhelming decision when you're trying to plan a Saturday afternoon.
You could spend hours checking reviews, comparing tasting fees, researching wine lists, and piecing together what each place is actually like. Or you could let us do that work for you.
We've done the research, visited the wineries, and scored them across 7 key dimensions so you don't have to.
That's PourPlan Ratings.
What Makes PourPlan Ratings Different
We don't just aggregate star ratings from Google and call it a day. We evaluate wineries across 7 specific dimensions that actually matter when planning your visit:
- Tasting Fee (20%) - How does the fee compare regionally? Is it refundable? How many pours do you get?
- Wine Value (20%) - Are the wines priced fairly for their quality?
- Hospitality (15%) - Is the staff friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming?
- Wine Quality (15%) - Do the wines consistently earn praise from critics and visitors?
- Vibe (15%) - What's the atmosphere like? Romantic? Lively? Cozy?
- Setting (10%) - What will you see? Views, landscaping, architecture?
- Parking (5%) - Is parking easy or a headache?
Each dimension gets a score from 1-10, and we calculate a weighted average to give you an overall rating.
Two Types of Ratings: Research and In-Person
Research-Based Ratings
For most wineries, we do the heavy lifting with comprehensive research that analyzes:
- Public visitor reviews (extracting themes, sentiment, and specific mentions)
- Professional wine ratings from top critics
- Tasting fee information (we call wineries directly when fees aren't published online)
- Wine selection and pricing from publicly available sources
We've done this work for 112 wineries (and growing). When you see a score like Novelty Hill-Januik at 7.8/10, that's us synthesizing hundreds of data points so you get the full picture at a glance.
In-Person Manual Reviews
For select wineries, we conduct in-person visits where we verify everything firsthand:
- Taste the wines and assess quality
- Verify tasting fees and policies
- Photograph the space (parking, entrance, tasting room, patio)
- Experience the hospitality and vibe
- Document the setting
When we visit a winery, our manual review appears first on the detail page with a gold background. The research-based score appears below as "Community Data."
The best part? We blend both sources. For dimensions like Wine Quality and Wine Value, we weight manual reviews at 70% and research at 30%. For Setting and Parking, manual reviews are 100% authoritative—research can't tell you what the view looks like from the patio.

Transparency Matters
We're committed to providing accurate, trustworthy information. Our ratings are based on:
- Public data (visitor reviews, professional scores, publicly available information)
- Verified visits (when we visit in person, we document everything)
- Clear methodology (you can see exactly how we calculate scores)
Every winery detail page shows you:
- The overall score and individual dimension scores
- Whether it's research-based or manually reviewed
- The rationale for each dimension (not just a number)
- Confidence levels (high, medium, low)
